This time of year we run an evaporative cooler instead of the AC. I open the back door onto the patio, and the cool air is blown out onto the patio. There are six hummingbirds out there in front of the door, cooling off. It is 110 degrees outside today. It took me a while to figure out what they were all doing on the patio. They are very tame and buzz all around me when I go out. Their feeder is full, so I knew that wasn't the reason. Then when I started to go back inside and felt the cool air blowing out I finally figured it out. Smart little critters!

That's awesome. I love birds. We get the hummers only for a week or two while they are moving. We used to have a lot of the green parrots but the last hurricane took them all away. Some have come back and I hear stories of them in new locations.
 
Humming birds are great. I had to take down our feeder here several years ago. I could not stop the ants from getting into it.

We are running an evaporative cooler instead of refrigeration unit (at least until monsoon.) Our relative humidity right now is 6 percent, which makes the evap work better than regular ac. You have to have windows or doors open, because it does not recirculate the air, but pulls it in from the outside through wet evaporator pads and into the house, then it blows out through the open doors and windows. It is 114 degrees outside right now and 80 in the house. And it is a whole lot cheaper to run than AC when it is this hot. All I am running is a fan and a little water pump. It recirculates the water, then it goes into my tree when it flushes every few hours. It is costing me $107 a month for electricity for my 1200 sq ft house. It will double that when I have to turn on the AC during monsoon when the relative humidity goes up and the evap doesn't work efficiently.

When we had horses, we used to put them into the back yard to "mow" the grass. They would line up across the back of the house, each one with his nose stuck up to an open window where the cool air was blowing out. They may be "dumb" animals but they sure weren't stupid.
