How would you cut this Manzanita root up? A, B, or C (c is something else).

Nolan,

It will depend on what you will use it for. That piece should yield you a few nice end-grain bowl blanks (cut A) or a nice sized vase or lamp shade blank (cut A). If you want to get pen blanks then it will A & B.

Set up an eBay store and sell the roots as pet accessory. They are good for reptile cages/aquariums and also bird perches especially for parrots. Small manzanita branches also sell well [;)] as bird perch and for ikebana (Japanese floral arrangement I think). Just note that with those...it can get tricky to pack so make sure you consider that before selling.

Nolan,
I would not limit myself to A or B. Dario is right it depends on what you want to get out of it but try thinking outside the box for a few minutes. I currently have a Manzanita root burl to cut for a neighbor and he wants clock faces from it (the rest I get for pens etc:) we think that a diagonal cut will yield the best results. Stop look and bonder than go for it.
