I swear I've read something on the subject here but now can't find it (I really did a few searches before posting).

I just turned a plain old cherry slimline and would really like to bring out the color of it. I though there was a trick of placing the wood in the sun or something that would darken the wood. If that is correct what kind of time frame is generally necessary. If this is correct I realize Arizona sun is a little stonger than some other places but in general. I'd rather have a bolder cherry color but am not above using a stain or wash if necessary.

Advice??

Thanks,

Exposure to sun will surely turn it richer red in color...but it is a slow process.

Maybe others can give you a trick to speed it up.

It can take anywhere from an hour to a week. Just keep an eye on it and flip sides every so often.

Cherry will continue to darken over the years, but the first year will be the most noticable.b

Rick, this site says Draino; http://www.woodweb.com/knowledge_base/Chemically_aging_cherry.html. I've also seen amonia fumes used (under a plastic tent of sorts) to do the same to a number of different woods.
