Soap stone can vary a bit depending on the variety you get, but for estimating it is about 180# per cubic foot. runs between a 4 and 5 on the Mohs softness scale. its realy easy to work and polish. it comes in colors from deep dark green to light desert tan, and everything in between.
Dick got some nice usable pieces. it really makes a difference of who you buy from. A lot of it is sold for sculpture carving so it has raw ruff edges. I cut mine with and old camp bow saw. as with all stone working WARE A RESPORATOR !! and watch out you keep the dust cleaned up... its hell on motors.
