How long does it take to make a kit-less pen?

It took me 12 months to make my first one. 2nd took me 9 hours . 3rd took 6 hours. I think i have improved the process to where i ca get next in 4 hours. Still have not made one I feel I can sell. As soon as I make a new cap for my last one it will be my first I could let someone other than my family have. But my wife says I can't sell it. So I am fairly close.

I'm very slow. I'm also a nitpicker. I don't know if I've ever finished one the day I started it. I like it that way. I really don't think speed and money can be the motivation and still have an enjoyable process, but that's just me.

I have many hours into a couple pens that don't even exist yet. They're both quite different, and take a lot of learning along the way.

If I really am trying to be quick about it 2-2hrs 30mins. However I don't usually try to make them ASAP. I take my time and enjoy the process. As far as price...between $125-$150 are my starting points. The dolloar amount goes up if using a rare material or solid gold nibs.

I think a little under two hours for a clipless was my quickest. Two hours is about average for a clipless though, and time goes up for adding a clip or different material for a barrel end. Button or bulb fillers also take more time. Prices starting at $125 and up to around $400-500.

I am REALLY slow. But, I tend to add bands a custom finial, usually made from metal. Those pieces seem to take longer to polish up, than does acrylic pieces. Price? Can't help you there.

Haven't made that many, About 3 to 5 days. Work on it a few hours each night. If I made better notes and didn't change my mind in the middle of the process it could go faster.
