follow photos show how i make my yarn pen
1) i ve only used 100% cotton multi color yarn,, test the yarn with thin ca,, you may get a little 'smoke' if yarn does not melt is ok..
2) put a drop on thin c/a on wax paper, dip the end of the roughed tube and lay the yard on the edge of the tube
3) wrap the yarn down the tube, no glue
4) i coat the end of a file with petroleum jelly so the c/a tube wont stick
5) slowly drizzle thin ca over the yarn,, be sure to have plenty of ventilation ,
dont let the tube touch an thing . i let mine dry overnight, this has one 'heavy coat of ca
6) turn mostly smooth, wet sand with 400g, i then apply 3 coats of thick ca
7)wet sand with micromesh polish with plast x

thanks for looking,, i sure there;s many ways to make these,,

For safety next time, look into real WOOL... I doubt it will smoke or melt. Just thinking of your safety. yeah wool is more expensive but that is the customers problem.

I don't see doing this in the future(CA and my sinuses don't get along too well), but the idea is 'sound' and I can imagine the color options(think grandma aisle at WalMart or HobbyLobby) would have just about anything to make swirlie designs with!

Cool!

Scott (could it be cast under PR) B

when i did this, i didn t want to get into casting, i did find if the yarn is not 100%cotton, the ca 'melts' the yard..i didnt try wool, didn t have any,, i would think it would be ok

wayne(just wanted to try something different)
