Hi, Julie. It's because they buy mass-produced products by the truckload for pennies. Then they post them on e-Bay, hope they get bids, and charge 6.95 for shipping. Most of those pens, even with boxes, only cost 1.95 to ship, so they are making money anyway.

Makes it hard for us turners to sell our handcrafted items.

My words (nearly) exactly...several months ago on Yahoo. Factories produce products. Foreign factories produce products very cheaply. They cannot produce "one of a kind," customized, artist produced works of beauty, that have practical applications. We can do that, but not cheaply. Quality and uniqueness are valuable. That is where we step in. Just my 2 or 3 cents worth.
