....

Well I will unmold it tomorrow and see if it worked! Figured I had just enough CC to make a small mold, and since I do not plan on using it again with switching to s41 why not try something.

Inserted a tube over a wooden dowel, nice and tight to prevent resin from getting in the tube, then used a scrap peice from prior mold and drilled the center to hold the dowel. Inserted it in the cap and then added the length of tube around it.

Poured resin and now waiting to see If I get lucky and have no air bubbles around the tube. :)

Will let you know then what was wraped around the tube..

:)

If you've got a tight seal, should work just fine.. as long as you can
get the dowel out, that is!

Thought of that, left it long on both sides, if I have to can cut it right at the tube and then punch it through the other side..

Still no match for your molds, and one of those is in the plans for the very near future!! :)O

What was inside...

This was my attempted at clear casting in a home made pvc mold. it worked, but not enough to use I think. For clear casting really need to cast flat so you can see the air bubbles and work them out or pressure i think.

I am still going to turn it and see what it does, think it will explode, looks like a few fractures in there.

The tube is wrapped in a section of measuring tape off of a table saw that was given to me. Cut out a section that wasn't to badly discolored and it just happened to be around the 42" mark. (rest in peace Douglas) :)

Well just as I thought, there was a major air bubble/fault line in it. Cought it as I was turning.

So before completly killing the blank, I stopped the lathe, mixed up a little 5min epoxy and filled in where it broke, just to see if it will turn again. I dont expect this to actually make a pen. Just killing time while other projects get ready. And to learn a little bit on as I go.

Will post more pics this afternoon after its turned if it stays together. I have found that 5min epoxy really means half a day at 65 degrees. :)

If you like Douglas Adams, I'd reccomend Terry Pratchett. He's also British, and he has a wry sense of humor I find to be very similar.

Anyways, I's reccomend using thin CA to see if it'd work in the crack, and thus make a repair. Too late now, but it might be worth a try in the future.

BTW, I love the measuring tape idea. Very creative!

Thanks for the tip on the author, I will look for some of their work.

The blank turned so so. The fix worked, but I think the tape idea was a little to thick for a wall street, nearing the bushings it turned the PR away from it, or it could also be I am turning oor.

I will get a pick up of it in a little while. Also found out, that even though I thought I had picked a very clean section of the tape, ANY discoloration or dirt on what ever you put on the tube will be magnified 10 fold in the finished blank. :)

There are some versions of the Sierra type that have larger findings.. that leaves you
more room to work. I just don't remember which ones they are. Was it the Aero?

Looks like a pretty cool idea!

Keep in mind anything that is too thick to cast .. can probably be scanned and
printed out on paper and cast.

It was a wall street II kit.

Will try the scaning next time as well, but I think I turned it oor, noticed during another blank that my mandrel has a little wobble to it. Guess its time to turn between centers now.

Here is the blank turned. Really would make a neat pen for a woodworker or arctitect, will try again..
