OK this is something I would like to install. (This will be a temp setup) I want 4 cameras set up around the house. Wide angle lens with distance up to 50 feet. There is low light situation at night so thinking I would need infrared cameras. They will be plugged into a recorder. The tricky part is they will be installed indoors shooting through a window. Heard that these cameras may have a hard time with this but also heard the opposite too so I really am not sure. I want the cameras to be weather tight because they will eventually be used on another house and installed outdoors.

Anyone with knowledge in this area can give me some ideas and places where to get them. Have looked at some ratings but they are all over the place. No smart phone so that is not a priority. Motion detection would be OK.

Thanks

John, Harbor Freight has these in a few different grades. We used the old style VHS when I worked at a used car lot. Had night vision, weather proof and, lasted for several years until the owner died. You will likely need extra cable unless, you go with wireless, which is one of the new systems I mentioned above. They were still working. They now have the digital system. Just a suggestion. I think they should be everywhere. Good luck.

Have plenty of cable:smile: Need something with good quality vision. Do not care what system as long as good quality and I am sure digital is that. No wifi. Probably pixel rating is coming into play.

Well, I went through a few different systems and I can tell you, don't buy IP address type cameras, they are trouble, the system I have now is a CCTV system from Swann, I have made the mistake to buy a 4 camera and 4 channel recorder but, I decided to add a couple more cameras that, I only saw i needed after I saw "blind spots" that the 4 cameras alone couldn't cover so, I endup spending a lot more money upgrading to a 8 channel recorder with a lot more memory and now I have a spare 4 Channel recorder that I don't use.

,This is what I got now, Swann DVR8-3425 8-Channel 960H DVR with Four Pro-735 Cameras, as the recorder size, the original 4 cameras are in use and I purchased another 2 of the same.

I don't know why you want to put the cameras behind windows when, they are made to be outdoors for a very good reason, glass reflections are a problem during the day but at night, the infra-red LED's reflect on the glass and lose most of its power, blurring the image, making it useless.

I have spend enough money in security systems that I could have some of the best out there, also made by Swann in a value of well over $1,500

Lets us know what you endup with...!

Cheers
George

If it's important you might need data from the cameras, then cheap is not going to work well. Plenty of cheap setups and the saying, you get what you pay for is true. Just how important the data is and it's intended use should be a factor on your price range.

I don't want to recommend one brand over another as I'm not familiar these days. My suggestion is find one then read as many reviews as possible. If there is even a small chance the video will be needed in a Courtroom, avoid cheap stuff.

After reading this thread earlier today I thought I would share this with you. I was looking on Groupon and found this.

I don't know anything about it other that a similar system was mentioned in this thread.

Good luck!

I have the IP ones and they were a pain for me to set up and I do subscribe to a hosting service. However, they merely serve to complement my security system. I mainly brought them to check on our pets and foster dogs.

For $199, I can't see how one get go wrong especially if used as an additional measure of sercurity.
