I strolled around the yard this morning, and took some snapshots.

Here is an azalea bud:

And here is a pink azalea flower:

I liked the texture of this bark:

I walked over to a redbud tree in bloom, and saw this bee hopping from flower to flower:

The shadow cast by these bluet flowers led me to get the camera out:

I call this one "Modesty":

These pinecones reminded me of a heart, but my wife says they look more like a butterfly:

I thought this tulip tree leaf was nicely backlit:

Again, I felt the texture of the wood was interesting:

And finally, here are some weeping cherry flowers:

Nothing casual about these pics, very keen eyes and steady tripod or hands needed there.
Delightful introduction to our Monday morning here like a breath of fresh air to an old photographer (me).

I recently gave all my cameras conventional Hasselblads etc to our youngest daughter to use as pic props etc for her hobby of combining images etc.

Breathtaking time capsule with incredible detail also drooled over the old timber image.

Many thanks for the spiritual diversion a far cry from the doom and gloom that sometimes permeates the forum. I took a trip through your site as well, lots of fun there.

Coupled with a conversation with a mate of mine who makes his own Gyrocopters who spent 6 mths in China last year in a Govt owned factory making jigs parts, he just loves the Chinese he deals with and sponsoring his passion for these planes. He is the only foreigner ever to be allowed to work in this factory. So two top experiences reinforce the soul and help to negate the tough things in life we face from time to time.

Trees were seriously in bloom around here a couple weekends ago. I waited a day to long because the wind blew them all away. Once again wrong priorities. I chose work and responsibility over play.

Snowed here this weekend. Only good thing is it didn't collect. Was supposed to be 55 today...... Thought I'd get out on the bicycle. Hardly made it past 40 by noon. Maybe soon?

You're just now getting your azaleas in? Down here, the warm winter tricked them into blooming in January... they've already come and gone. Now it's just April, and I think the gardenia is trying to bloom.

I have been eyeing a couple of macro lenses, but don't currently own one. I used an old DSLR and zoom lens with a cheap ($8) extension tube.

Thanks. The photos were all taken handheld (and sometimes breath held). The extension tube didn't pass the electrical connections along, so I had to shoot at max aperture and focus manually. Still, it was a learning experience. I have a better extension tube set (with electrical connections) on order. When it arrives, I'll get AF, IS, and DOF control back so my close-up pictures should improve.

What kind of equiptment did you use?

Just kidding :biggrin:. I used a Canon 20D with a 70-300mm zoom lens and a short extension tube.

Your pics are even more incredible I remembered photographing weddings for it seemed like forever when colour negative film was new bracing myself for available light pics in the churches of the back of the bride walking down the aisle using hymn books pews, back of sacristries when that was taboo country in Catholic Churches. Progressing from 35mm to 2 1/4 square or 6 by 9 cm from 1/4 plate cut film a 10 by 8 inch kodak century studio bellows camera to several Hasselblads still until recently

Thinking Inside The Box

I thought it might be fun to show what a camera made primarily of wood and leather looks like, so I opened it up. I'd totally forgotten about the roll of exposed film inside. I don't think I ever used that brand, so it may contain my grandfather's photographs. I'm really tempted to develop the film and find out.

Yep, it's poison ivy. That's why I don't like it in my yard (along with the dandelion and the sweet gum seed pod).
