I thought my pain problems would be taken care of by the two knee replacements I had. Well, the knees feel great but now it is the hip. Going to have the right one replaced tomorrow. Once I recover from that it will be my right shoulder. Despite all of the setbacks I feel blessed to be living the life that I am. God has been good to me but even so, a few extra prayers probably wouldn't hurt. :) Thanks!

May the Good Lord be with you and your surgeons. Amazing what they can do these days. Wish you all the best. I am getting to those same points in my life. I need both left knee replacement and right shoulder replacement but too chicken. Right now I am going through tests to get me ready for cancer surgery of the Parotid Gland that needs to come out. The biggest problem is the internet. I have read all the mistakes that can happen and it scares the **** out of me. Getting old is not for the weakhearted. Again prayers for a quick and successful recovery.

Mike,

You're a good man. Prayers for a speedy recovery. My son had his hip replaced at 17 years old, now 45 doing fine. They say hip surgery is easier than knee surgery.
Keep a positive attitude.

My wife has had both hips replaced, recovery was easy and no problems.... my older sister has had both knees done and doing well..... I've heard that the knees are a harder recovery and shoulders are the worst yet... wish you the very very best in your surgeries... listen to your rehab techs and do all the exercises and you'll not have any problems.

Best of luck, Mike!

Neighbor had hip replacement where they go through a muscle rather than bypassing it. He was up and around in now time. He would recommend the procedure. I'm looking at knee replacement after the first of the year. Friends say the surgery is a snap...it's the rehab that is something out of the Spanish Inquisition.

The knee surgeries were alot easier than I expected. I did the PT religiously and had very few problems. However, I've heard of some people who get both knees done at the same time. I didn't, and I can't imagine anyone wanting to do it that way. that might have been a little too much for me.

Mike

hope everything goes according to plan.

Has your better half realised she's getting a new man in instalments yet ?

Don't do it by halves - get yourself an old coat and the worry beads and joss sticks. I mean if you're going to become a hippy , might as well go the whole hog as it where …..😉

I agree. Both knees replaced, surgery no problem, walking up staurs the next day. PT was brutal but dont skimp on it as you cannot let the scar tissue form or you will loose range of motion.

Prayers sent your way…🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hope everything goes well & you have a speedy recovery…I need to schedule replacement for both knees in the coming months but I'm sure not ready for it.

Hip replacements are truly remarkable procedures with good outcomes. Speedy recovery!

Praying all goes well. My Dad was the 5th person in the US to get an artificial hip by Dr. Bloss in Evansville Indiana. I believe it was 1969. The original was made of cast and machined stainless with a cast stainless cup and everything was screwed and wired into place. It lasted until he died nearly 35 years later.

The other Hip was replaced the following year with a new design using plastic and "glue" as he said. He went through 3 different designs of those, as I recall, before one held up to his activity.

At 5'7" and 140 pounds he complained that Dr. Bloss told him the hips would "hold up to anything he was big enough to do". Doctor Bloss told him he didn't realize Dad thought he was so big. 😊

Original recovery was about 2 weeks as an inpatient. By the time he was all he had to was make a lap around the floor, but they kept him 3 days anyway.

They have come a long way in the past 53 years. Your surgery, hip and recovery will go great! 😊

I see a "Like" from Mike to a post that was late last night. He must be done with the surgery and reading online comments.

I hope all went well for Mike and Phillip. Best wishes to them for full and speedy recoveries.

My step father was about 88 or 89 when he had his first hip replacement... after the surgery I'm assuming he did some of the therapy, but he was home and watching his cows out the front door and fussing 'cause he couldn't see the ones on the other pasture... MOM was late 70's and partially cripple with back problems, but still drove some....She said she could drive his pick up around the pasture and he could see his cows... off they went until she drove off into a hole and stuck the truck... They sat in the truck for a while, then Arthur said guessed he'd need to go get the tractor... he walked about 1/4 mile across the pasture, climbed up on his big John Deer and pulled her out... he never sat down again 'til his other hip started giving him some pain... his regular doctor wouldn't do the replacement because Arthur was about 95 by then... his 60+ year old son was having his hip done in Marshall, TX... Arthur asked if the doctor would do his too... they both had surgery the same day. Artur was up and walking 2 days before Kenneth got up... A year before he was in the pasture pulling a calf that was having trouble getting born... they got the calf out and the cow got up a took exception to Arthur being between her and the calf.... she hooked him and tossed him over her back, landing on his back, his hand helping him and Mom rushed him to the hospital where they gave him pain meds ... he had a cracked vertebrae but the meds gave him hallucinations and he wouldn't stay in the hospital.
Just hope I'm as tough as he was.
