Hi Everyone,

I am a hobbyist cabinet maker from the UK. I have made furniture in the past and when I went to buy some kit from a retiring workshop I bought a lathe which has sat in the corner for 5 years collecting dust. It came with a pen mandril so recently have been learning to turn and make a few pens.

I was wondering if there is a kit out there that can make a pen similar to a Mont Blanc Meisterstuck Le Grand. I am trying to get a custom finial on the end but apart from Taylors Mirfield Leto - there aren't many options.

Is there a way to just use a skeleton kit and adapt it. If there is a project on this forum that springs to mind the please point me in the right direction.

Well that's the end goal anyway and I am sure I will fail more than I succeed but I never give up.

Thanks for letting me be part of all of this. There is some superb work out there.

David

Hi David -
Welcome to the group - and to your newfound interest. You have an excellent resource for penmaking things through Beaufort in the UK Link . They sell lots of parts as well as kits where you might find something that meets your needs.

Welcome David! There is a lot of info in the IAP Library.
Many moons ago there were pens called "Monte Blanc" but the company objected to the use of their name and so the pens were renamed "European". You may find something useful and Beaufort is a great resource in the UK. There are only a few places selling unique to them pens. The majority are from 2 or 3 manufacturers. The resellers give new names to the pens, but they are the same pens.

I have been thinking about this a bit backwards and I think it may be a kitless route that works the best.

I am pouring over the catalogue as I type.
I'll have a look out for the European style ones. Many thanks.

David, welcome to the forum.
There should be information in the library ( found under 'Resources' ) about DIY Finials.
There are videos on Youtube showing how to. Here are a couple of links.....

This is the closest I know off. There is one that uses a cross refill and another using a Parker style refill. Most places here in the USA call the pen the Euro
