Hi
I have been a turner since i was 14, 50 years ago in another life lol.
I have been making pens now for about 4 years, started with nice woods but now acrylics and soft metals, I just give them away really, but I enjoy making them especially on the dark nights, with my log burner and the tv.
I have a 3 speed uk made woodlathe, but I prefere my metal lathe, which is just a cheap chinese variable speed model 4" chuck, it handles the acrylic, brass and copper better.
I tend to buy my materials from China(manufacturers) or Australia, a company called woodbits.
Its great to read your posts as I have no friends or family who are really interested.

Welcome to IAP. Visit often and post lots of pictures. We like pictures and please share ideas and techniques, that is what makes this a wonderful place for all of us.
Welcome from Georgia, USA!

welcome.

great to have interested folk

Hi
thanks for the kind welcome you really are keen and your posts give me new enthusiasm, i am on a tobacco growing forum and we talk about spots on leaves and little black bugs, you know the nitty gritty of things.
You ask me, the main thing is if you start off wrong, you will spend all your time trying to put it right and if it looks ok at the end it will never be the same for you.

Welcome to our world. come back often and as said earlier, show lots of stuff. this place is a learning forum. it is kind of like pen turning university, with class being held 24 hours of the day, every day of the year.
again, welcome aboard

welcome to IAP from another Limeylike you say most kits i source outside the uk but there are a few good suppliers in Derbyshire otherwise I've now gone the kitless route as many of the USA suppliers seem very reluctant to deal with us here they say its that the VAT and local taxes are the reason????? but many of the stateside members are very helpfull by acting as abuying agent if asked nicely
