I came across an eBay listing for pen blanks - bought a bunch just because I was so amazed by the crazy amount of variety there is. I had no clue that wood could be purple or pink or green without dye or that they could have crazy patterns like lacewood or snakewood. I knew how hard and dense some woods can be after seeing what ironwood and ohia can do to a chainsaw blade - but now I'm curious about wood that is even more hard than that.
Anyways, after getting all the blanks, I started looking into pen turning a bit more and eventually bought a cheap WEN lathe and have been trying to figure out how to use it. Recently got some help from an IAP member on turning snakewood and am so appreciative. Really excited to be here.

Welcome to IAP from Ohio. Have FUN!

I just found a stick 8-9" long, 1" x 1" labeled Lignum Vitae. Probably the Argentine variety, but very heavy and dense; a greenish tint also. The few I turned were excellent.
