Just stopped by to say hello and introduce my self.
My name is Chris and I have been turning pens for a couple of years now. Got hooked after started working at a Woodcraft store. (I know it sucks to be me)
Other then the woodworking I'm also in to historical reenacting along with the wife. I reenact 1630's Scotland and US Airborne during world war 2.

So thats me in a nutshell.

Welcome Chris, from far west Kentucky, to the addiction, sometimes referred to as the vortex. Be sure to give the library a good bit of time. The link is at the top of the page. You will find an article called Library Index. This covers tutorials on about anything pen making you can think of. You will also notice that there are articles listed by year. Much good info there as well. When these fail to answer your questions, by all means post it here. I have never seen one go unanswered very long. You might also want to give this thread a good look. It has some very good info for the beginning pen turner; http://content.penturners.org/articles/2009/Getting_started_in_penturning.pdf. Grab some wood, make some shavings and have fun all the while being safe.
It is such a terrible shame to have a job, such as yours, where all your pay goes right back to the employer.

I don't work at my local Woodcraft, but I do spend a lot of time there.

Welcome Chris,

I'm sure you'll enjoy this forum. There are many avenues of resources here and you'll find some of the nicest people around. I empathize with you working at a Woodcraft store. My favorite job was working at an Ace hardware store,(many, many years ago:frown:). Job didn't pay much but the perks were great:wink:. Left most of my pay there.

Post some pictures of your work, we love pictures:).

Carl
