I bought the Harbor Freight blade sharpener that Stevers was telling us about in another thread.
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=96687

The instructions are very poor and we had to figure out how to set it up by trial and error. On the first attempt to sharpen the blade we found that several of the adjustments didn't hold tightly. This caused the teeth to be sharpened unevenly.

The weakest link seems to be the indexing mechanism finger. There is too much play to get uniform travel between each tooth. I think we can improve the mechanism without too much difficulty and without altering other parts of the tool.

Star washers could be used in several places to help maintain the adjustment.

The first blade we sharpened was reasonable for a first attempt. Our second blade was done after we had addressed the indexing problem and got the grinding wheel parralell to the face of the tooth. The resulted in a much more satifactory sharpening.

I would say that I am happy overall with the performance for what I paid for it. As the old saying goes "you get what you pay for".

I don't know how long the sharpening wheel will last and haven't tried the honing wheel yet.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Good to know Steve. Thanks for the review. Keep us informed if you make any more changes and improvements.
I had a feeling it would be a suitable tool for the home wood worker. With a half dozen blades, it could pretty easily pay off in a few sharpenings.
Thanks again.
