Hello the penturning community :)
While looking up some "wood stabilizing adventures" I came across this forum/website.
I'm a woodworking amateur and although not a professionnal woodturner, I'm quite familiar with penturning. This said, my skills can only improve as I have still a lot to learn.
I live in Belgium and started the woodworking hobby 10 years ago.
When i have some free time (which happens less and less often) I film my adventures and share them with the community on YouTube.

I'll probably be sharing my experience shortly in terms of stabilizing pen blanks and the issues/mistakes I encountered :)

So where in Belgium are you? My daughter was an exchange student there in 2016, and lived in Dinant for a year. We visited her and had an absolutely wonderful time there. We got to spend time in Brussels, Bruges, Liege, Oostende, Ghent, and fell in love with the place.

Well, I live near Brussels.
I'm glad you've enjoyed your visit in Belgium. Dinant is a wonderfull City, I would have loved staying there for a year too.
We are a very small country but we have plenty of nice things to visit.
Hope you've had the chance to taste some Belgian specialties : waffles, cholocates and most important of all BEER. We have some specialised bars in Brussels that sell more than 5000 different beer types. Despite my efforts, I'm not yet done tasting everything 😄😄

We did get to sample much of what Belgium is noted for. We had both standard and Liege style waffles, both savory and sweet. I had the best hot chocolate that I've ever had at The Chocolate Factory in Bruge, and were introduced to the proper way to make pomme frites (my daughter still maintains that Gabby's in Namur makes the best). The beer was a real revelation for me. All of the beers I tried had a very different taste than anything I've had here in the US. I haven't been able to put my finger on the difference, but Belgian beer has a more mild and complex flavor. It's like the carbonation bubbles are smaller or something. Anyway, I found that I really like Tripel Karmeliet, and Leffe Brune a lot. Now this was from just about 10 days there, so the adventure has just barely begun. More than enough justification for a return trip or three IMHO.
