My dad and I were driving along and were about two hours from home. We noticed an odd smell but thought it was the truck next to us. The dash then stared to have some smoke coming out of it. I pulled over Nd opened the hood. No smoke. We came back around to the cabin to find it with more smoke. I ran to the back and unloaded while my dad emptied the front. As we finished getting it all out, flames were filling the cabin. We are safe as well as the 300 blanks, but as you can see, this car will not be getting us to Virginia.

That was a real nasty surprise Im sure, :eek:thank goodness you had the presence of mind to save the blanks. Glad your ok and no one was hurt.

"I think that will buff right out!" Officer asks, "Do you really think this car is road worthy?" I can go on........ But it looks like that left rear wheel will be okay. WOW, glad you guys are okay. That's a crazy one!

Yes, glad you and your dad are okay. Your wife and kids need you both.
Also, a blessing it didn't happen when your wife was driving with a load of kids.

Hope to see you next year.

Hmmmmmmm! No fire up front so it must have been in back. New brakes same day. I think I see a connection here. I might have a conversation with the person who installed the brakes. Hope it wasn't you.
Anyway, I'm glad you both are safe. You can get another car just like it.

Be sure to tell the insurance company about the new brakes and tires. When my car was totaled some years ago they offered me a paltry sum until I showed them the receipts for the new engine I had put in two weeks earlier. They added the cost of the new engine and it's installation to the payout.

Damn, glad you guys are OK.

Odd that you had new brakes done and suddenly there's an odd source of heat that's NOT in the engine bay that leads to a fire. Honestly, I'd suspect brakes.

Now…take scraps from that thing, cast a couple of blanks, and make a couple of pens for you and your dad.

Eric,
If I lived in your neck of the woods, I would let you borrow a set of wheels for the weekend. Hope to see you next year.

We lost a car to fire some years ago also..glad you both are okay.

Glad you guys had time to get out safely. Unloading was a bonus. I like Jason's idea about casting some pieces from the wreckage. Since nobody was hurt, except for the poor little BMW, I think a charred emblem cast into a bottle stopper would be a cool souvenir. Lid for a little box? Don't know how large the emblems are, or even if they're even salvageable, just thinking out loud.
