This is the second time I have had this issue. The first post I had no pictures it was bocote and very dark hard to see. This one not so hard. Turned pen put two coats of thin CA seems to be getting a little thick then 6 coats of Med. CA. I did use accelerator it looked very good until the next day and it all went down hill. One other question what do you guys do to get a clean edge when the CA goes over the edge? I always get a lip and my hardware won't fit flush.

first - what brand of CA are you using, and exactly what method are you using for application?

second - on the question of the "lip" - after I complete a CA finish, I use a Rick Herrell pen mill with 220 grit paper and very gently square up the ends of the blank again. That removes the CA lip.

EZ-Bond CA Thin (2 coats)then I used Stick Fast Med. (6 Coats) and Stick Fast Accelerator between each coat of CA..

I would not mix brands of glue/accelerators - that could be your problem.

I use all Medium CA for finishing - 16 coats with accelerator between coats.

No problem using E-Z Bond Thin and Stick Fast accelerator. Was a temperature change involved? How old is the CA?

This question has popped up several times before. Do a search on "CA crack" and you will get a couple of days worth reading. Exact cause is probably unknown but fresh CA is often involved in the solution.

Getting CA on the ends of the wood is a good thing. Keeps the water out during sanding. After your MM finishing, the sanding mill mentioned above will give you a nice clean finished end next to your hardware. (reference right below the clip in pic #2)
