Hi,

I bought a 9 back of micro mesh (regular) pads (3x4) at the local tool store yesterday ( a Rockler affiliate). The 9 pads are color coded and included was a color chart to determine the grits. Only problem is that the colors of the pads don't exactly match the colors on the chart. I'vd had a couple of people look at this with me and we all agree they don't match exactly. The company is Micro Surface and their website appears to be down. The Rockler website shows the pads all being the same color (grey). Rockler product id is 27940-- Has anyone purchased these pads that are color coded rather than all one color with the grits printed on the back?

Thanks

Woodcraft MM has same issue

Woodcraft sells the same pads. What I was able to do was break them down into obvious triads, since they did not use similar colors on adjacent grits. Then within the triad I could figure out which was which from the color. Sometimes I had to use a process of elimination, I would have a pad the did not match the picture but I could identify the other two.

Since the pads I have with the colored MM was white, what I then did was mark the foam pad on the side with a sharpie. I just used dots so that I could keep them in order, one dot for the coarsest one and 9 for the finest.

I've been using the Woodcraft Micro-mesh 2x2 pads (http://woodcraft.com/family.aspx?familyid=5233) for several months now. They are all stamped with the grit number on them but it fades out over time. So, I just take a black sharpie permanent ink pen and write the grit number on the surface of the pad itself. I've noticed no difference in effectiveness of the pad after doing this. It's much easier to read on the surface than it would be on the foam sides of the pad.

Update. Micro Surface website was back yesterday. I called and spoke to Debbie in Sales. She said she would walk me through the grits but I needed to have them in front of me. Now if I could just remember to bring them to work :-). Once I get the info, I will post the info in case someone else encounters the same problem.

Thanks Holmqer, that's a great idea about the dots. I was thinking of marking on the white edge as well, but was wondering how I was going to get the grit numbers written out that was legible on such a small edge.
