I'm not sure if it's the mechanism, but the tip of the pen is showing a little.

Can someone advise or post something here for me to check or refer me to some type of instructional material.

(1) The length of the blank(tube) was shortened when the ends were squared. It doesn't take much as some kits are very very sensitive to barrel(tube) length.

(2) If the barrel(tube) is not shortened then try reversing the spring. Yes, it does matter. Take a look at the spring. Many of them are not perfect "cylinders" and the orientation does make a difference.

(3) The black plastic tip on the end of the refill can be shortened just a bit. BUT, I would NOT sell a pen with the refill's length adjusted. It will work fine for a personal pen.

Do a good turn daily!

I'm thinking #1 of your observation is what I probably did. I might not use the mill kit and square it with the sander. I'll keep y'all posted.

I know that I am a bit late to the party on this question, but if the blank is shortened, wouldn't the refill extend too far rather than not enough? I would have suspended that he used a 3/8" tube that was a bit longer than the kit called for. I've actually had two occasions where the tube that was included with the kits was slightly different than what was correct. Am I off-base on this?

Short tube and the tip will show when retracted. Long tube and the tip will not protrude the correct distance when propelled. I assumed the OP was concerned about the tip showing when retracted. I read the original post again. He did not say.

The tip showing is when the pen is retracted. And yes I used a 3/8 tube that's what came with the kit.

Agreed with why this is happening (brass tube taken down too much).

Solution: take out the twist mechanism and sand/grind down about 1/16th to 1/8th'' of the white plastic pieces that extends/retracts. Should solve your issue. Good luck!

The mechanism is brass, but I see what your saying.

Didn't know these kits weren't forgiving lol.

This. I've had to do this more than once.

I was way more careful and it came out perfect.

Thank you!

U can try shaving/grinding a small amount of the mechanism plunger (either brass or plastic).
