Just had the sheriff stop by because of the small fire in the backyard. He didn't see me sitting there watching the flames as I burned some of the crap wood I have.
He would have given me a ticket for an unattended fire except I was there and even had the water hose going beside me. I was watering the flower beds.
He has seen me working the lathe in the driveway for the last few days and wondered what I did with my shavings. I showed him where I use them for cover around the fruit trees I have. Cheaper then rocks and as they rot, they feed the trees.
Then he asked me about the fire and what I do with the ashes......I smiled as I told him I put them in the garden and roto-till them in spring and fall.

He asked me if I throw anything out and as he laugh, I really couldn't think of anything we waste. We compost all we can. We recycle cans and plastics. Our garbage is not really alot.

How about you?

The sheriff left after we shared a cold root beer. He said he is going to bring me a dead tree from his back yard. I will have to see what is comming. Maybe I can get a pen or two made for him.

We recycle all we can if it doesn't go into the gardens. We have garbage pickup every week, with recyclables every-other week. We have gone over a month before we had to put our garbage out, but recyclables need to go every time.

We use the "plastic" and walnut shavings for garden paths, and the other shavings for around the plants as mulch.

The big pieces get saved for the occasional fire pit usage.

Happy turning

Our local garbage company has stopped recycling pick up. They have started to go through the trash and reclaim all usable material so we dont recycle like we use to but give my shavings and sawdust to a local potter who uses it for her pot fires. Not much goes to waste here either.

I started tapping my maple trees a few years ago (30 trees or so), and have a cinder block evaporator I built. I save just about anything burnable throughout the year. Nothing worse than having a tank of sap and nothing to fuel the fire with.

All the firemen and policemen KNOW that they have a standing discount if they buy from me. It can be a gift or a memorial. I respect these men and women for the work that they do.
There is just something about people that work for others. That giving attitude is there.......and I do my best to give to the givers.
