Hi, my name is Henry Simpole, I make silver and gold overlaid fountain pens, but I'm afraid I do not work with a lathe....... sorry about that!!!
I am not only a newbie here, but I am an absolute amateur when it comes to doing things on a computer! So the idea of me 'posting' pictures here is not possible at the moment.
I came across this site last night when I looked my name up on 'Google', and noticed that there was a reference to me from someone here, but when I tried to write a response, I then discovered that to do so, I would have to register as a member! So here I am!
I haven't really looked around very much yet, but I will do so soon, I hope.

Welcome Henry. I've seen your name on the FPN, I'm new there (as Inspector) but not seen any of your work. Posting pictures is very simple and you will get it in no time. There are most likely some instructions here somewhere and it is the same as most forums.

Googling yourself eh? :wink:

 
Welcome from across the water. Give the libary link a looksie. Alot of you questions can be answered there.. Don't hesitate to ask if you do have any questions...

It feels strange to be here amongst people who have much more technical knowledge about the pen making business, [using a lathe!] I am self taught, with regard to making my overlays, so it is usually quite funny when I go to Hatton Garden to replace a tool that I don't know the name of from the supplier, so I take the tool that I want to replace, and tell them that I want a replacement for 'this', and I hold it up for them to see what I'm looking for!
Still, they are usually very helpful about it, and I sometimes find out what the tools are called!!!

Henry, I've admired your work with Conway Stewart for some time, stick around here and who knows you might even be making some originals on a lathe some day.
 
Welcome to the site. I too have marveled at your work. Hope you stick around to enlighten us and hope we can return the favor.
 
The base-pens are made up for me by a man named Graham, who was the head-man at the Conway Stewart factory, and then left there to work for the small engineering works where he had worked before he went to work for Conway Stewart.
Having built up a good working relationship with him, it seemed only right to continue working with him. He's a really nice guy!

Thank you very much for your comments about my overlays.
I have gone onto another forum,[Advanced Pen Making] and asked if anyone can help me find a source for the old fashioned 'feeds' for fountain pens, the sort that would be able to work with a rubber sack and a button filler mechanism for the filling of the pen, are there still manufacturers who do these things? If so where do I find them?

I think that I have already stated that I am very new to 'Cyberland'!!! Computers are not my 'strong suit'....... really, I am a total amateur except to send and receive E-mails!!!
