Hey everyone!

My names Greg, and i'm addicted to turning

I started turning roughly 3 weeks ago, and have made quite a few pens in that short of time. Completely self taught, so i'm sure i'm making all kinds of mistakes. It does help me learn though. Looking to possibly meet up with some more knowledgeable turners in the area to get some tips/tricks from.

Take a look at some of the few I've made!!

The "first" one

One I made for a fellow gearhead

One I made for the wife

Pair I made for a fathers day gift

Another one for me

And lastly for a music lover

Hopefully I can learn a bunch from everyone here!!

Welcome to IAP, Greg !!!! . Nice pens !! . Looks like you are off to a good start !!!

Welcome Greg. You look like you have gotten off to a fine start all by yourself. Now you can read all of the posts and ask those burning questions that you have about how to do things.

One thing this site has is an outstanding library of articles which have been published over the years.

So, if you have questions I would suggest starting there first, then if you can not find an answer search the appropriate forum using the search function and see if there was a thread which already dealt with your questions. If both of these fail, then by all means post your questions and you will get answers to them.

Welcome from the other side of Illinois. You are off to a really good start. Just remember to keep the tools sharp and don't be afraid of making mistakes.

Great start! I'm just down the road in Streamwood. Did kit pens last year, started turning full kitless this year. It's a slippery slope, lol.

Welcome. Never to early for a commercial. We have a local chapter of this site that meets in person every other month in Bolingbrook Illinois. Always seems to be well attended (40 - 70 members have attended).

For complete details:
Chicagoland - International Association of Penturners

Look at the first post for the next meeting invite.

Oddly enough I was at the rockler store picking up some kits at the tail end of the meeting.

Will problably end up at the next one for sure.
