Just got started turning about 3 weeks ago with my DIL's Grandfather. He is going thru some health issues and used to turn pens. I do a lot of woodworking and thought I could have him show me some stuff and provide a distraction for him.
Long story short, I got hooked and he is having a great time and so am I.
I purchased a used Jet 1014 lathe and the guy threw in some tools and a few burl blanks here are some of my first creations. First one is a piece of walnut that I had in the shop. Second is one of the burl blanks that I got with the lathe. Third is the off cut from the burl blank with some walnut from a gun stock for the band's and fourth is a salted maple that I picked up at woodcraft who had a bin selling for $1.50 per pound.

Welcome Wade. You are off to a good start, and it's great that you have a tutor on hand. Very useful, and he's probably getting as much out of the experience as you are.

Welcome from the other side of Gwinnett County. Nice to have you with us.
You're invited to join us at Gwinnett Woodworkers Association. We meet most Saturday mornings at Peachtree Woodworking, 6684 Jimmy Carter Blvd, Norcross, GA. Check our schedule at www.gwinnettwoodworkers.org
I joined that group as soon as we moved here. I am going to give a class for the scroll saw SIG in sept

Thanks not perfect but pretty none the less. I have been trying to figure when the GA chapter of IAP meets. Not much on the meeting datesfor the meetings. Look forward to meeting you also.

Interestingly, the better one gets, the less perfect one finds their work. It is the great paradox of "mastering" a skill. Enjoy!

Wade, we are trying to schedule a GA IAP Chapter meeting in late March or April. We will post the information on the IAP website.
Possibly Saturday before Easter at Holcomb Bridge Road Woodcraft. A meeting is on the books for Saturday, June 13th at Woodcraft.
Make sure to select on this website that you want to receive an email notification if you get a PM on this site as that is how we can
notify on this website. It is our understanding, if you do not select that this option be turned on, you will no be notified on your email
that you have a PM on the IAP website. Also, if you will, PM me your email address as we are trying to compile email addresses to notify members of GA Chapter meetings as well. We welcome all who want to attend our chapter meetings and have had members from Alabama, Tennessee, and South Carolina attending in past years. Thanks, Lee
