Welcome aboard David from another Missourian about 2 hours north of you. You can gain a lot of knowledge from this site so don't be afraid to ask questions. You may want to consider marking your calendar for April 17th for the Midwest Penturning Gathering in Champaigne Illinois where you can see several good demonstrations and mingle with other penturners as well as winning some door prizes. Good luck with this new addiction, it is a slippery slope which you have went over.

Thank you one and all for such a warm welcome. Yes I did mark my calendar. I'm just getting started, I make my first pen two weeks ago. I gave it to my wife, she really supports me and my hobbies. I'm all ears and ready to soak up the wisdom of others.

Thank you,
David

Welcome from Texas

I just started myself and have found it totally addicting. As a kid, we spent a couple of years just north of Alton, IL.

Welcome David. Glad to have you here and there is a lot of great folks here to help!

Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't.
