Hi IAP Members! I'm super embarrassingly new to pen turning, but love making things and absolutely love fountain pens! I'm really excited to find this space and look forward to learning from all the pros here. I really hope that one day I can turn my own custom fountain pens. Thank you!!

Welcome! There's a lot of great info on the site. I just started turning about one year ago and this community has been a great resource. I look forward to seeing your future pens!
 
Welcome to IAP! This is the one stop shop to go from embarrassingly new to posting your new advanced technique. The search function is your friend, however if you can't find the right information or you don't know what exactly what you need the people here are amazing at getting the right answer to you.

Welcome along Kazz

The enjoyment and personal satisfaction far outweighs the costs ( especially if one "allows" one's friends and family to get you essential birthday presents and supplies ! ) . Suddenly all those family reunions become a thing of joy and celebration as you head off to your workshop to try them out.

THIS TECHNIQUE " saved me a fortune " . One does need to be especially careful as to what one highlights in the various catalogues you leave strategically around but try it ! It also helps to have a buddy who will receive parcels cos you're not available ( you collect at a later date when SWMBO is busy and it would be unfair to ask her to collect it 😉)

Enjoy the forum first thing to buy is a pair of vernier calipers they're a god send for this sport

Have fun and save ( similar logic applies to ladies and shoe shops I'm told 🤷‍♂️)

Thanks for the tips! Yes, definitely leaving catalogues lying around and browsers open 🤣. And eBay/facebook/craigslist for a decent second hand lathe. I'm currently on proxxon micro lathe and that's like doing an open heart surgery on a worm.
