Morning

I am totally new to the craft and group. Appreciate the membership approval and look forward to learning as much as possible. As a retired cop and corporate executive pen turning only hit my radar screen during the past week.....A close friend helped me turn my very first pen and I immediately fell for the hobby...We are located in Jasper, IN; natives of Hershey, PA.

As a "newbie", I am starting from scratch in terms of needed equipment, supplies, etc. My shop footprint is very limited, so portability of equipment and ease of use are critical factors. Would appreciate any beginner equipment-supply lists, sourcing recommendations, classes, reference materials, etc., etc. anyone can share and/or point me too...

Regards and stay safe

Welcome from NJ - I work in a very tight space as well and my only suggestion is keep organized right from the beginning and put everything you can on wheels! A nice midi lathe, a few good tools, and some time will get you rolling. Ask away!

Welcome Ron

I recommend getting in touch with the american wood turners association https://www.woodturner.org/Woodturner/Woodturner/AAW-Main-Homepage.aspx

they are bound to have a chapter / group nearby and they are usually ( as most Americans I have met are ) very friendly and welcoming. You will get advice, possibly hands on guidance and a source of local supplies / tools

Enjoy the journey and the results, and above all HAVE FUN

Oh and photos on this site never go amis either 😉

Definitely start here! This is the shared wealth of what we wish we had not wasted money on.
