Hello all. New to turning, I got an older (MIUS) Delta a year ago and have just started using it. Having fun so far. Here are my first two usable pens. Both using barn wood I salvaged 15 years ago, I'd guess it's 120 + years old.
Sycamore

Southern Yellow Pine (think this is what was called pitch pine, very resinous and fragrant still)

JUst poking at at thread I missed earlier this year.

Very nice pens! I suspect you are correct on Sycamore. However, the finished product is excellent - well done!

Thanks Mark! The pine one I gave to my step son. He carries it every day. The sycamore one I rotate through and will keep, as its #1

Welcome, and great-looking pens!

Though I use barn wood regularly for other projects, I have never tried it on a pen.

You have inspired me! Thanks for sharing,

David
