i am just learning, purchased a lathe and associated tools, plus mandrel and kits, now in my '60s. figured I'm going to learn this, so far its a relaxing and distracting hobbie. Just what I needed to distract my mind.
I will do a lot of reading and video watching to familiarize myself on what to do.
Nice meeting everyone.

Welcome aboard, Gary!

Turning is lots of fun. There's a bit of a learning curve, but the collective knowledge of the group here, along with a few excellent YouTube channels, will really shorten that curve.

Welcome Garry from Sarasota, Florida. You have an invitation to my shop in Sarasota if/when you are down this area. Summer is the slow time for me in Pen making because I don't have an Air conditioned shop but would love to collaborate and meet you.

Welcome to turning. I started about 30 years ago, I'm 69 now. I used to turn bowls and pens in my earlier years, but now that I can't stand for long periods, I find turning bowls difficult so I turn smaller items, primarily pens. In my retirement I sell my pens at a Farmers Market on Sundays.
I tell you this because you will find a niche and when you do, you will find turning a joy and not a chore. Don't be afraid to make mistakes for those mistakes will be your best teaching tool.
Good luck and happy turning.
