I was looking for a new hobby during my last deployment and after several months of looking and procrastination I purchased a lathe on Craig's list a few weeks ago, and have made 3 pens since. The results have been decent so far, and I've enjoyed it. I recently picked up 10 slimline kits and have been practicing with the wood I got with the lathe. Looking forward to trying different materials and kits (any suggestions?) and finishes. There are a lot of choices and its difficult to balance between something that will make a nice pen and spending too much cash on something I am likely to screw up.
