Well, actually just south of Charlotte in Union County...
About a month ago, I picked up a Rikon mini lathe with a lot of penturning accessories from Craigslist and started turning my first pens immediately. Being that this is the first lathe I've ever used, I still have a lot to learn and although they're not without their flaws, I've already turned a few from some blanks I cut out of some black walnut firewood pieces and some leftover scraps in my shop. I've already ordered more kits from PSI to pair with some exotic wood blanks that I've purchased from Woodcraft in Matthews.
I'm really excited about this new hobby and being able to make some useful items for my friends and for my family.
