Henry:

Welcome, I don't know why you could not use that lathe, as long as everything lines up (head and tail stocks), I used to live in Harahan, south of the lake. have fun.

henry, welcome to the world of penturning! I used a Grizzly 16x43 before I bought my powermatic and my Rikon mini. The Grizzly worked great until i put a slightly catywhompus piece of mesquite on it to turn a bowl. it walked across my shop and fell over, ending it's days of faithful service. Anyway, should be great for penturning, just watch out for big pieces of lopsided wood.

Welcome, Henry.

No reason you can't use a bigger lathe. However, when I switched from a mini to a "full sized" machine (Jet 12-36 in my case), I did find it a bit less convenient for positioning, etc. YMMV.
