Recently retired and added a lathe to my shop to start turning pens. Looking to get info first on blanks, drying requirements, some casting maybe.
Good advice, thanks.Welcome aboard Pilgrim, looking forward to how you progress in turning. But to start, you can turn any piece of wood for practice. The more practice you get before starting to turn pens, the easier it will be to do what you'd like with a pen blank. You can start by using most construction material, any material over 3/4" would be great to practice with. It is generally the size you use to turn a pen out of, and using it would get you familiar with turning a pen blank. Good luck.
