I was here a long time ago, and hadn't made a pen in over 10 years, but recently have renewed my interest when my wife asked me to make one for a gift. I have been lurking here for a while, and thought I would come back out in the open.
I can attest that pen making skills do wane with lack of use, as I promptly blew up 3 blanks
. So I took a hiatus and and restored 3 vintage fountain pens that were in the family since the 1950's (Esterbrook J, Sheaffer Snorkel, and Scheaffer touchdown) before going back to my wife's request.
I finally worked through re-learning enough to finish the pen my wife requested, and then made a kit-less FP to re-learn some of those skills too.
