I'm right there with you. 104 on wednesday. Triple digits pretty much all the time the last couple of of weeks here in central California. I have no option but to just wait until it cools off. I just got in to pen turning earlier in the year too.
 
I feel for you Ken! I've been killing myself out there trying to get pen and blank orders done.

So I finally broken down and bought this! It just came in. Now to run the electric and get my HVAC buddy out to do the technical stuff.

Price wasn't bad at all. Around $650 not counting the expenses to wire and hook everything up.

I currently have a portable heat pump from Sam's. I had to cut a 4" vent in my garage, but it does a decent job keeping the hottest days to around 80. Plus it gets rid of the humidity.

But latter this year, I'm getting what Jonathon has. Actually, I getting a multiroom mini-split. We have a loft my wife wants to make a playroom for the grandkids. The air just doesn't cut it up there in the summer. So a mini split should solve that problem. Adding another room unit for the garage doesn't add that much more.

It's funny how I used that loft for 10 years as my office. A fan was all SHMBO thought I needed. But grandkids need more cooling. :rolleyes:

Are the split unit cassette. Very nice package. Too bad it didn't live closer I would trade you for teaching.

Ironic. Here in Vermont, I have the opposite problem with my shop in the basement. It's the coolest part of the house in the summer. The winter, however, is the opposite, I can't heat it very well so I don't turn much from January through March.

When I move to NC in a few years, AC in the shop is definitely tops on the list.

108 Wednesday and 104 Thursday 97 yesterday my 10x12 ahop is insulated and has a window AC on a 108 day I can keep iit in low to mid 70's but have to staart it early in the day before sun hit west side of shop. My Grand son and i were out making pes Thursday and it was very comfortqable. Don't know how good the AC woulb bed in the South with th humidity.
 
I haven't made a pen since moving into my new house. My old shop wasn't air conditioned, but the air moved through it well. Here, the air doesn't move well (despite a large ventilator in the rear of the shop), so I'm saving my nickels for a 5 ton unit. I'm looking at $4100 installed, but I'm waiting on the fellow to come across a dented/scratched unit. The orientation of my shop doesn't allow for natural air flow, and our heat index has been ~110F. After being outside in a refinery all day, I really don't care to be in my new shop that I just HAD TO HAVE!!!
 
I haven't made a pen since I started back to work last November...but looking ahead to this December so I can retire again... Get back in the shop, hang in there Kent cool weather just around the corner..
