Are there differences in the heat produced by CA of different brands? I just started using some new thin for part of a finish and wow it's hotter than my other CA. In fact it burns. Harry

One brand is actually called "Hot Stuff", quick acting.
I tend to stay away from thin on finishing.
medium or thick is the way I normally go but everyone developes their own method.

eagle , this brings a question to mind. I started out using the "Hot Stuff"you mentioned, and learned to do a pretty good BLO/CA finish. I recently purchased some of the CA from Mannie in his last group buy. Here's the question. Have you ever noticed a difference using the same technique but different brands of glue. My example: With Hot Stuff I apply it rub back and forth over the blanks to smooth it out and it's smooth.....With the new glue I do the same thing and I get rings and ripples requiring dropping down to coarser grits of MM. On the upside by doing this I found I get a more glass like final finish. Anyway I was wondering if you had ever noticed a difference like this between brands of CA?

Mick I know this was not addressed to me but I saw a huge difference when I changes from hot stuff to another brand. I also moved from Sacremnto to AZ so I was not sure if it was due to the climate or the brand change. I actually was getting such bad finishes I was looking at every other finish I could find. I have changed my method and am back to getting good CA finishes.

I tried "Hot Stuff" once and it bloomed on the blank.
Too hot.
In retrospect I may have used too much.
After "seeing" the effect of BLO on the elusive blue pen I did where the white part of the blank turned yellow I am going to stay away from BLO/CA finishes also.
I use the Harkey Davidson/ Eagle/ skewMM method of a CA finish.
Put enough on, skew to level and let MM take it off.

I use the "Hot Stuff" bran with nice results. I wish I could find it a little cheaper, but I usually tend to stick with something once I like it. I used to use blo when I started with the CA finish, but no longer do. I start with two coats of thin, just to seal things in. I find that it makes the thick that I use for the finish coats smoother. Also, from time to time I was getting white spots in the grain when I started with the Med or thick. Whatever works I guess.
