Our health insurance is through my wife's job and she is being laid off at the end of the month. We're in our early 50s.

Does anyone have health insurance through a group or affiliation? I've read about the AMAC, does anyone have their insurance plan?

OUCH!

I have had an individual plan for many years. They are not cheap---I have $10,000 deductible to keep my premium down, still pay a couple hundred bucks a month.

AS I UNDERSTAND Obamacare, you may be eligible for federal assistance in paying the premiums, as long as your income is low (and with your wife unemployed, I am guessing your income will be low).

Entertain a couple of the major insurance company salesguys---Blue Cross, United health---do it quickly, cause you CAN use Cobra to extend your wife's insurance, but that is usually also NOT cheap. (I say use the big guys cause their salesmen will be trained on the newest choices---your local multi-line insurance guy may not be up to date).

Good luck, let us know if Obamacare actually HELPS you!!!

Make sure you check out your COBRA option through your wife's work. You can stay on that plan for 18 months usually. You do have to pay the monthly cost plus a 2% fee though.

You do have the option of Cobra, but it also isn't cheap (wife and I pay $1600/mo)

You might want to check with your state on what is being offered thru Obamacare

Try ehealth.com If you have a good health history they can find you something - or at least you will have some prices to compare.
