We have decided to get away from the in-laws this Thanksgiving and are heading to Coco Beach, FL. We have a room on the beach and will be there for a week. We went once before when I graduated collage in 2005 and spent 2 days at the Space Center and a day at Sea World.

This trip we have no agenda. Looking into a Manatee nature boat trip. Plenty of rest, relaxation, and of course some good sea food.

So here is my question: Where should we go for some good food (shrimp, Crab legs, etc) and what are some good wood stores?

Dixie Crossroads great for Seafood. The Rock shrimp are small but great tasting. Also Grills is a nice place. Shells in my opinion has the best clam chowder.

Woods stores? Those are in Orlando. We have a Woodcraft and Amazon Exotic Hardwoods has a good selection with some nice woods, some of them pretty rare. But those are both about hour and a half from Cocoa Beach. Once you get over there though they are less than 10 minutes away from each other.

As for food, Dixie Crossroads is good. I think they may not be as good as they used to be, but that is just more of what I heard and it will come down to your opinion. Its still a nice place to go, and the corn fritters are good! Grills is also good from everything I have heard and I have friends that go there. I don't eat shellfish but I have lived in this area my whole life so I have heard a good bit about the seafood. A new restaurant that is good from what I have had of their finned fish is called Crackerjacks, and its kind of out of the way, but it is on the dock right next to the bridge overlooking the river. I can poll my friends if you want more recommendations. There is a lot to do in this area, so I can give you some ideas if you want, just let me know your interests. I would show you around a bit myself, but I am about to get married and move to another state, and I am not sure if I will be back for that weekend or not. Contact me when it gets closer though and I will see if it could work if your interested!

Thanks for the info. We may make a trip to Orlando just to goof off one day. One of my co-workers grew up in Titusville. His father worked at the Space Center (Redstone through Shuttle) and he has a niece that works there now.

You'll probably have to drive a while for wood in Cocoa Beach.
There is a business called Treehouse Woods in downtown CB owned by Erik Johnson.
He does wicked neat things with old woodies (cars).
You might be able to buy some decent off-cuts from him.
The other nearby options are:
Sturgis Lumber US 1 Vero Beach
Amazon Exotic Hardwoods Casselberry, FL
And, Wood128 is in CB; you might send him a PM.

There's plenty of good seafood places:
I highly recommend Goombay's Grill in Satellite Beach; not fancy, just great food.
Squid Lips has good chowder. We also really like Grills.
Also tons of great Thai restaurants.
