Yeap, that's an old trick. It is really strong as long as you saturate all of the baking soda and build in layers. It is also best if the baking soda is dry, like put it on a baking sheet with some parchment paper and dry it at 220, then let it sool down in an air tight bag.
 
I have never seen that. I have some knobs from my Weber grill that are the only thing that are not high quality. I will have to try that for strengthening them. I bought it in 2018 and they have sent me 2 or 3 sets under warranty, but it is still annoying.

I used baking soda and CA on balsa wood back in the mid to late 60's. I tricked several of my friends that didn't know what CA was then, but I knew better (from personal experience) than combine baking soda with CA when pulling a prank on them.

I used baking soda and CA as a strong filler (and adhesive) back then but never tried it as a "tool".
