I harvested a pile of beautiful pecan wood today. Some nice spalting and really nice heart wood.

I'll process this into bowl & spindle blanks next weekend. If you'd like to have some, please see my Marketplace post.

There's a lot more available - this is all that I can haul in the car carrier. I'll bring my trailer along next time we come to the farm.

Nice score Edgar.
It is always nice when we can save a few gems from the fire pile. What you have looks really nice.

Nice looking wood... if I were to ever come back to the Houston area might try to pick up a chunk or two... not going to happen anytime soon though.

The wind we had last night knocked down a huge Juniper in my back yard... it's still not all the way down and may be a while before that happens... it's hung up in the top of another large tree... leaning at about 45 degrees, so not sure if/when it may come on down. it's been leaning at about 10 or 15 degrees since we moved here, but with all the rain and wind last night and yesterday guess it gave way.

Beautiful wood Edgar. When you start cutting the spalted pieces you might try cross cutting a few so that the lines run around the barrel. This wood is quite stable and the cross cut pattern was very popular with customers.

I'll do that

Ah....pecancrete. My tree trimmer gave me a bunch of old pecan. HARD wood! But really beautiful. Lucky you! Sharpen up those chisels!

Actually, these aren't too bad. When live trees are cut & processed, the wood is quite hard - about 1800 on the Janka scale.

I only harvest wood from limbs that fall to the ground & usually after they've been down for a year or two to let the spalting get started. I don't know what the "hardness" is at this point, but I'd say it's comparable to olive wood (about 1300) & even softer at spots. Some of this sap wood might need stabilizing, but even most of that is still solid enough to turn as is.

Today's additional harvesting: a few more pieces of spalted pecan & Huisache and some long-neglected Mustang Grape vines. These are a good 3" thick.
