I was asked by a friend to make a pen from purpleheart for her Mom.
She picked out the Hart double twist Pen kit from WoodCraft.
I have made a grand total of one pen in my life.(A fountain pen for my wife)
Any advice ?
I have time but won't if i mess it up!
No local sources for kits
Thanks Y'all

The Hart is a pretty simple pen to turn & assemble. It calls for a letter 'O' drill bit, but you can use either an 8 mm or a 5/16" if you don't have the letter bit.

O = 8.0264 mm
5/16" = 7.9375 mm

whichever of the 3 bits you use, I would recommend drilling a hole in a piece of scrap wood & test fit your tubes to make sure you have a good fit before drilling the actual blanks.

Also, if you haven't worked with Purple Heart much, don't get worried if it turns a brownish color when sandimg. It will do that when it gets hot. Place it in the sunlight and the purple will come back.

For a Halloween exchange I turned an orange blank for the Hart kit. I misplaced the bushings, so I have a "carry" pen... (I did another for the exchange).

The mechanism is great! (I suspect a Berea Kit). I used a better refill (Exotic Blanks). My wife has used it and also likes the refill and the basic size of the pen.

I like this kit due to its size and basic feel.

Have Fun!
