I wasn't sure where to post this but I figured this was a safe bet.

Anyone from the Philaldephia suburban area know of a sawer that has a decent supply of both Hard Maple, and Hard Curly Maple? I usually make a once or twice a year drive to Hearnes Hardwood or Groff & Groff, but that's over a 60 mile drive that I'd rather avoid if I can. Thanks.

OK Tim, this may sound a bit crazy, but I get Rock Maple from Bowling Pins. If you aren't looking for big pieces this works well, bowling pins are 4.75 in dia. x 15" tall.
I have a Bowling Pro Shop in out rural towns small Bowling Alley and they sell me used and damaged pins for $1.00 each, some alleys throw them away. Pins have about 1/8" white plastic over turned Rock Maple. The downside is that many pins are core drilled to meet an exact weight of 3 lb. 10 oz. But I still get 4-10 pen blanks and from the top above the neck blanks for bottle stoppers, kaleidoscopes or antique pepper mills. I also make some into Bowling Trophies, I chuck them in the lathe and turn (shave) a little off the plastic cover, then use decals and spray a lacquer coating.

I should have made it clear that I'm not looking to make pen blanks. I'm looking to buy about 30bf for large projects having nothing to do with pens. Thanks anyway.

I have a wood supply company here and they might have some if you don't mind shipping. The prices are cheap.

What is the name of the company. I am looking for decent priced maple too. Only source I can find in AZ is pretty expensive.

Wood stock supply, the owner is a good skiing friend of mine.

I'm pretty sure shipping will make it too expensive. But thanks. I just identified a possible source about 12 miles from me. They said they have 4/4 stock for $3.10bf. I'm heading there now to take a look.
