Cats do not have a reputation for giving unconditional love as dogs do. There's nothing wrong with them but they are in my experience much more aloof than dogs.
You too Leroy! Although the cat on my lap may have differences with a dog, he does stay close as if he were one.

Happy New Year Leroy.

As for cats and dogs IMHO alot of biased thoughts prevail. Reality is sometimes different (see attached pic...).

For about 14 years we had a beagle hound named Chippy. We also had several cats that, I wouldn't say we owned, but they did hang around ther house and we did feed them, we didn't let them inside due to alegeries. Any way for the last three years of his life when Chippy went outside his entourage of cats would come around and rub on him, circle around him and just in general fuss over him. He went for his dailey walk and 4 or 5 of the cats would go with him. It was such a delight to see him coming home from the walk, crossing a field looking like an aircraft carrier surrounded by its escorting destroyers - one cat in front one on each side and one bringing up the rear. If those cats loved anyone around our house it was Chippy and they made him feel special.
Happy New Year Leroy.

The same with Aris (the dog) above. Until last spring (we lost him) he was the cats' and home protector at my parents' home in Greece. Every adopted cat fell in love with Aris.
Anyway even after his death, this dog remains in our thoughts for: "Aris pens, The crafted wooden pen"...
