Anyone ever turn hair sticks? Just thought as the material we use would be small enough, although probably not long enough, would make some really unique hairsticks.

I had for awhile a lady turner in Brisbane (Australia) that was making lots of nice hair sticks and would order double length pen blanks, for making them. At one stage I had most of my timber species cut in 21mm square x 10" long, just for her.

She is no longer buying and I cut most the the long blanks into normal pen blanks so, I don't believe normal pen blanks or even 6" pen blanks would be long enough...!

Cheers
George

Toni did a collaboration with a turner and had several hair sticks on display at the 2010 AAW symposium in Hartford.

A couple of years ago Melanie (mbellek) made hairsticks. I checked however and she has not been active since 2008. Don't know if you could contact her or not.

I have made a few pair of chopsticks for giggles. Guess it would be the same concept with stock between 1/4" and 1/2" thick by 10"-12" long.
A similar item is those knitting bobbins you might want to do a search here or via google for more ideas.

Please show the results of your efforts.

Oops! Bad memory on my part, but sans hook these Crochet hooks that Toni collaborated on would make good hair sticks.
