Please respond to the thread if interested and in what tap/die combination.

I would be very interested in buying 12mm x 0.8 x triple start die, bottom tap and plug tap.

I hope this goes ahead.

Thanks for starting this, Elwin.

BTW, I do not understand the "2.4L" notation ... can you explain please.

I am not exactly sure. I saw an explanation on it and will try to find it again and post it here.

I think that it refers to the .8 x 3. Where .8 is the threads per inch and 3 is the number of starts. However, I may be wrong.

2.4L = the lead = the distance moved in one revolution.

In the case of 12 x .8 triple. You get the lead by multiplying starts by pitch.

0.8 * 3 = 2.4

At least that's what I always thought it meant.

.... so it's the amount that the pen body advances longitudinally (lengthwise) as you screw it one revolution into the cap .... ? .... sounds like a correct and reasonable explanation ...

Thread pitch is 0.8mm, and there are 3 sets of threads. . If there were only 1 thread and you turned one rev, the advance would be 0.8mm.
But since there are 3 sets of threads, the effective pitch is 3 x 0.8mm, and so with 1 rev, the advance is tripled or 2.4mm.

I'll buy that !! . Seems like redundant information, but that's OK. . If it's "0.8mm pitch triple start" you technically don't need "2.4L".

Thanks

Hi.
I would buy the M13 plug and bottoming taps and die.

Depending on the quantity/price we reach I am also interested in the same combination for M14 but I can't commit on those until we have an indicative price.

Thank you for your efforts.

Cheers,
Costin

Yes, I'm interested

I would be interested in the 13x.8 tap and die for sure and possibly the 14x.8 as well depending on how far down the price might get. Thanks for initiating this. I hope it has enough interest.

I would be interested in a m12 plug tap and die set as well as a m14 plug and die set if prices are in the +12 range.

The price quote that I was given would place the M13 taps in the $48.90 to $42.00 range each if we get 12 or 24 buyers.

The price for the M14 taps would be $55.00 to $48.00 each if we get 12 or 24 buyers.

The associated dies would be $ 61.50 to $59.90 each if we get 12 or 24 buyers.

I have never done a kitless pen but it is something I might be interested in trying. If I were to buy sets in two different sizes, which sizes would you guys recommend I start with?

Also, are these 12 quantity prices as good as they appear to be, when compared to the single quantity prices? I would be purchasing for possible future use if the savings are that good.

Thank you.

1. M13x0.08. with 6H HS GD-4
1. M9x0.75 D4
1. M6.4x0.0.6

2 dies:

Thanks for initiating this group buy. If we get to at least the 12-23 qty price, I would be interested in:
M12 plug and bottom taps and M12 die
M14 plug and bottom taps and M12 die
Plus possibly other size(s) if getting close to that 12-23 threshold.

Thanks, Jeff

I am interested in the 12 Tap AND Die if we get 12.
I prefer the bottom but it doesn't really matter.

I would rather have the 11, but no one has mentioned it yet, so I know there would not be a discount for that.

Hank, there is a price quote for the M11 tap and dies. Once I get an idea for what we can order I will pass on the counts for the M14, M13, M12, and M11 sets thing everyone can look at where we are and decide if they still want to go forward.

I'm interested at the 12+ price point. Either 12 or 14, maybe both. Plug tap & die.

Keith,

I am no expert, but here's what I know:

Regarding the m13's - all three of my triple lead Tapco taps have the lettering HS GD-5 and they are all three intermediate taps. I am not sure if the GD-4 and GD-5 is a designation for the design of the tap or something else.

If they are triple start, they should also say 3LD or triple LD., I don't have any double start, but I assume they say 2LD or double LD - something like that.

I dont understand why they would say m13 x 0.08 (I think they should say m13 x 0.8 or m13 x .8)

the m9 x.75 is a standard single start tap which I use often for my kitless work. Mostly on the nose cone threads for ballpoint and rollerball.

The m6.4 x .6 is for a bock #5 feed. Also the Schmidt rollerball nose cone

The m13 x .8 is a triple start die

The m9 x .75 is a standard die made to go with the m9 x .75 tap you have.

Keith,

I assume your m13 tap is a triple start, so you have an m13 triple lead tap and die set already.

My thought is you would want a slightly smaller tap and die set as well, in case you wanted to make a thinner bodied pen. Maybe an m11?

This is my first group buy, but sign me up if the numbers go above 3 for each of the following:
M13.0x0.8Px2.4L Plug tap
M13.0x0.8Px2.4L Die
M12.0x0.8Px2.4L Plug tap
M12.0x0.8Px2.4L Die

If the nubers for both M12 & M13 plug, bottom, and dies go above 12, sign me up also for:
M13.0x0.8Px2.4L Bottoming tap
M12.0x0.8Px2.4L Bottoming tap

Limited budget, I know you folks understand.
Greatly appreciate coordinating a group buy!!!

Here is where we are at currently:

I have calculated the discount amount based on the order quantity for each item. Then used that amount to calculate the discount percentage so that we can all see how much of a discount we are being given by the vendor.

Let me know if anyone has any questions and I will try to get you an answer.

I mentioned above that I would take a M12 set, but didn't specifiy the Tap type. While I would prefer a bottoming tap, if I go forward, I will take whichever one hits the 12 count.

I really wish I could give a more definitive answer, but I just can't afford it unless it gets to the qty 12.

If we can get to better pricing at least 6, prefer 12 pcs price:
I'd also pick up a plug and die for 11.

Side question what designs are you using a bottoming tap for? Most of my cap design all worked fine with a plug. Is it for see through acrylic? Please advise, depending on the answers I may pick up some bottoming taps as well.

Count me in for M12 plug tap and matching die if we get to 12+. Also might as well take the M12 bottoming tap if it hits the 12+ buyer pricing.
