Hi guys

Following up I wanted to share the result of my project, and hopefully reach David @egnald directly.

I have completed and posted online a historical and botanical essay on Chakté Viga (Coulteria platyloba / Caesalpinia platyloba) and its place in the trade in red dyewoods and bow-making timbers over the past three centuries
(fair warning it's dense... don't try it in the morning unless you have a fresh jar of coffee at hand)

David's 2020 observation from his thread "Chakte Viga a very colorful wood" is cited in Part II of the essay, and his two photographs (the pigment extraction in water and alcohol) are currently included in the text. They are the only direct empirical documentation of Chakté Viga's dyeing behaviour I found anywhere, and they make a genuine scientific point.

I have been trying to reach David for permission to reproduce the photos, without success so far. David, if you read this: I would really like your permission to use those two images. If I don't hear back, I will have to remove them from the published version and reference the observation in text only which is a shame because the photographs speak for themselves.

Thanks again to those who replied

Frédéric
