This idea and partly finished pen has been on my work bench for a few weeks. Dale's all wood pens and DWFII's closed end FP awakened my motivational spirit and I finished the pen this week. The kit is Berea's Classic Americana Screw Cap and the metal ends were replaced with wood. The wood is pistachio....really is is figured maple dyed green with aniline dye. Thanks for looking and comments welcome.

Hi Don,

I really like it. I bet it is just stunning in person. It looks eye catching.

Oh...and I liked the wand as well. Dye must be fun. [:)]

Tim,
The dye is fun. I can do pens in school or club colors. The more figured the wood is the more striking the result. Seems that the figured wood takes the dye differently and the figuring really stands out. I dye the wood after sanding....let it dry a little...buff it dry with a cloth...apply BLo and do my CA finish. I keep small jars (switched from glass to plastic...you got it...multi-colored shop floor) of dye mixed and apply with a Q-tip, lathe on very slow. Try it. Fun and endless (well almost) variety.

Actually, I tried some cloth dye on one pen made from curly Maple, but the results were not too impressive. It was OK, but not as deep looking as yours. I guess I have something else to add to my shopping list. My poor Credit Card. [V]

Dale,
Thanks for the comments. Actually I tried PSP and had no luck so I went back to PhotsShop and upgraded to v7.0 and found some turotials and wa-la....I need to find some textures for backgrounds and see what I can come up with. Its fun to try to present pen is some manner than just an ordinary photo...but it takes time. I don;t do them all.
Thanks again,

Gradient backgrounds work well for some things as well.
