Short story- he turned matching lamp bodies for him and his main squeeze. One was too large so he came by to turn it down. I got everything set up, tools sharpened, calipers and dividers ready to go. He did some turning with a bowl gouge and had some high spots. Sandpaper, he said, got it even. Surface was smooth. I told him about the skew and possibly no sanding needed. Showed him one. Gave him a list of four top woodturners that are on YouTube. I have watched all four and they are very good. I have a ton of wood that we can use for practice.
One good turn deserves another. BTW, several years ago, he turned pens for his parents- Dad is an engineer so it was the wrench; Mom got a pink kaleidoscope pen. Dad's pen was arbor vita...hard as tool steel.
