the big lathe is broken, so I turned this on the mini lathe, couldn't stand not turning anything.

Its 7" tall and has a 4-1/4" diameted.

Real heavy, I keep forgetting how tough macassar ebony is, sure is a cool looking bowl when your done though.

Its designed to look like a hollow form, its a lidded jar though.

I got this cleared most of the way through, the walls are 3/16" thick most of the way.

Real nice bowl, macassar Ebony is a jewel! And redheart is a great compliment.

CA glue, Sanding sealer, woodturner oil, then a french wax.

Its not really the finish that makes it shine though, its the wood.
Macassar ebony is a jewel!

Your missing a world of turning if you don't try exotic hardwoods, they sure are expensive though, Ebony is $40 - $60 a bd ft.[:0]

Darick,
Wow, you've got some real skill. I thought you were in high school. Or is it college? Either way, you humble me. I just rough turned my first "bowl" last week. I hadn't turned anything for 6 weeks and it was killing me, so I turned a stopper one day and a goblet the next. I hate waiting for the wood to dry. I guess you don't segment green wood. Very impressive.
Rob

PS I love that little shock of sapwood in the side. It really sets the rest of the urn off nicely.
